    Easy to Use

A standard wedge tends to move as the resident applies a side-lying force. The Slide System uses interlocking Velcro to connect the slide sheet and the wedges so that the components remain in place while positioning patients on their side.  A low friction bottom and continuous handles make the nylon sheet ideal for repositioning, sliding or transferring patients.   A mesh sheet is offered for use with low air loss mattresses.  Either slide sheet can be used with or without the positioning wedges.  Since transferring or sliding residents from the bed to another surface could put some strain on the caregiver; in the event the heavier resident subjects the caregiver to too much strain, three Universal Glide Sheets are offered for a range of mattress widths. The Universal Glide Sheets are placed under the system to minimize the interface friction.  The 30° bed system should be placed over this sheet to facilitate transfer.

    Application

    1. Place the slide sheet on the bed facing down with the light blue surface on top with the strap at the head of the bed.
    2. Attach the strap to the bed frame just under the mattress. Adjust approximately 12” from headboard. (Caution: DO NOT attach to a stationary part of the bed frame that does not move as the head of the bed raises or lifts.)
    3. Lock the bed into position and then position patient on the center of the slide sheet according to your facility’s patient handling procedure.
    4. Lower the bed rail on the side of the bed closest to you and confirm that the bed rail on the opposite side of the bed is in the RAISED position. Using the handles gently lift the slide sheet to roll the patient onto their side. Position one wedge under the patient’s back/shoulders, black side down and then the other wedge under the patient’s buttocks/thigh. There should be approximately 10”- 12” between the wedges ensuring that the coccyx/sacral area is off-loaded. Smooth the slide sheet over the wedges to secure Velcro connection.
    5. To reposition patient on the opposite side remove, the positioning wedges and repeat the above procedure including raising and lowering of the bed rail. Alternate sides on a frequency of rotation determined by the medical staff.

Note: If it is chosen to use one of the Universal Glide Sheets, the appropriate size should be placed over the bed sheet and affixed to the bed using the six straps. Each strap has a slide for length adjustment. Once the Universal Glide Sheet is attached then place the slide sheet with the velcro and handles on the bed facing down.

    Resident Transfer

Lower the bed rail, remove the positioning wedges and disconnect the strap on the slide sheet from the bed frame. Using the handles on the slide sheet, one or two staff members can slide the patient over to a stretcher, gurney, etc.

    Resident Roll Control

If one bed rail is lowered, two bolsters can be placed under the sheet with the Velcro® mated. If two bed rails are lowered an additional set of bolsters can be placed on the side of the bed as above.

    Caution

    • Do not use the slide sheets to lift patients. Only use to slide, reposition or transfer patients.
    • Patient positioning should be done according to your facility’s patient handling procedures.
    • Before each use check the system for signs of wear and replace when necessary.

    Easy Care

The nylon sheet (not launderable) and bolsters can be wiped clean using disinfectants. The mesh sheet can be wiped clean using disinfectants or laundered and dried at temperatures that do not exceed 180°F (82°C). In addition, the Universal Glide Sheet can be laundered at temperatures that do not exceed 180°F (82°C).
